Who is Marci?
Marci is a published author, Personal Trainer, Body Image expert, founder of the Fit vs Fiction Body image workshops and blogger for The Huffington Post. She was selected as one of Canada's Top 100 Health influencers for 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 by Optimyz magazine.
Like too many people these days, Marci struggled with body image and self-esteem issues for most of her life. Feeling like she could never live up to society’s unrealistic beauty standards, she often resorted to extreme and dangerous diet and exercise techniques that resulted in serious emotional, psychological and physical damage that wreaked havoc on her life for the better part of 30 years. Marci’s battle started in her teens and continued into her adult years until she was lucky enough to find recovery.
Her amazing recovery and ability to turn trauma into triumph has been her catalyst for reaching out to other young men and women who are facing the same obstacles she did.
Fit vs Fiction allows Marci to tell her story in an engaging and meaningful way. Her in-depth group seminars and one on one counselling allows her to connect with her audience by focusing on real-life experiences and examples. Fit vs Fiction is an interactive experience that uses age appropriate pictures and stories to empower kids of all ages with the tools and information they need to tune out the negative/dangerous messages regularly thrown at them by the media and marketers trying to profit from their low self-esteem. Marci’s workshops dissect the myths related to beauty and fitness so that boys and girls can grow up with the self-confidence they deserve.
Marci’s Fit vs Fiction workshops for adults, are an invaluable resource for parents, teachers, coaches and anyone who has kids in their lives they care about, as they offer crucial information when it comes to raising healthy, happy children in an images obsessed society. Her adult workshops offer tips on what danger signs to look out for, how to spot potential body image/eating disorder issues and practical advice on what to do about it.
By sharing her story openly and honestly, Marci gives others a safe environment to share their own questions and concerns.
